DEFENDER MASTERCLASS FROM TWO LEGENDS

Watch how often both these guys stay on their feet and don't go diving in. They both keep it simple, win it, give it.

UNDER 15 MATCH HIGHLIGHTS: LEFC 3-5 Heanor Juniors

UNDER 12 MATCH REPORT: LEFC 4 - 1 Draycott United

The winning Squad: Tom ‘the cat’ Stanton, Thomas ‘Brains’ Barber, James ‘determination’ Craig, Matthew ‘desperate’ Duxbury, Nass ‘the terminator’ Tourki, Ahmed ‘Captain Fantastic’ Al-jaf, Josh ‘bonecrusher’ Elliott, Cedrick ‘Usain Bolt’ Nattrass, Kieron ‘the Hitman’ Hart, Kirk ‘keepy uppy’ Walters, Ryan ‘twinkletoes’ Bancroft

Penalty Save: Tom ‘the Cat’ Stanton

The scorers: Cedrick, Kieron, Ahmed, Ryan

Assists: Kieron 2, Ahmed, Kirk

Man of the Match: Tom ‘the Cat’ Stanton

MoM runners Up: Kirk, Tom B

Nattrass converted early Emmanuel pressure into a 1-0 lead with a perfectly directed long range drive. Draycott couldn’t capitalise on a couple of dangerous free kicks and Captain Al-jaf finished a lovely passing move involving Hart and the combative Tourki to double the lead. On the stroke of half time Hitman Hart netted his 17th of the season to make it 3-0. With no subs to call on the game evened up in the 2nd period and it took a superb penalty save from man of the match Stanton to spare Duxbury’s blushes. Elliott, Craig and Barber had to work their socks off to keep Draycott at bay but Walters sublime passing continued to create chances at the other end and Bancroft showed skill and bravery to finish superbly and extinguish opposition hopes.

UNDER 18 MATCH REPORT: Toton 4 - 4 LEFC

Emmanuel travelled to the top-of-the-league Toton and produced an excellent performance to claim a fine away point. Toton began very brightly producing excellent football but with Emmanuel's whole defence standing tall and Cole outstanding at left-back Emmanuel more than met the challenge. Gradually Large and Schad began to win ball in midfield and then, at the ten minute mark, Pownall produced a fine run before setting Etherington free on the right who fired home brilliantly. Toton came back strongly and soon equalized to set up another tight phase of play. It was therefore a huge blow to the church club when Smithson had to hobble off. He was, though, replaced by Aning who began the second half by simply muscling his way into the box before blasting the ball into the roof of the net. A few minutes later and Etherington produced a fine long-range shot which the Toton keeper could not hold. Emmanuel then made it 4-1 as Pownall latched onto a fine Walker pass to beat the Toton keeper in a one-on-one. However, with 30 mins to go against the best in the league, Emmanuel knew there was still much work to do, and so it proved as Toton gradually came back into the game with two goals to make it 4-3; however, with Arme, Tyrer and Riman holding firm and man-of-the-match Day superb in goal and the clock ticking down Emmanuel looked like they would claim the win when, with literally five seconds, to go Toton squeezed the ball home to equalize. As soon as Emmanuel kicked off the referee blew for full time. Emmanuel came off disappointed but to be disappointed with a draw away at the league leaders is a good sign.

Day; Tyrer, Arme, Riman, Cole; Pownall, Large (Lewis), Schad, Smithson (Aning); Walker, Etherington. Other Sub: Frutuoso

UNDER 15's MATCH REPORT: LEFC 3 - 5 Heanor Juniors

After what seems like an eternity Emmanuel got back into action with a performance that demonstrated the progress the team has made whilst reminding us that there are still lessons to be learnt.

Heanor arrived at Derby Road with an impressive record of played 10, won 9, lost 1, and with 67 goals scored and only 18 conceded. They look on course to win the league being only 4 points behind Donington at the start of play and having 3 games in hand. This is relevant to us because in that context Heanor represented a very tough test, perhaps they are the strongest team in the league and with players accustomed to Division 1 it was going to be intersting to see how we performed against them.

The game started with an early chance for Heanor after a strong forward run from the gigantic number 4 resulted in a foul and a free kick in a dangerous area. The ball ended up tamely in Vishal's hands then 30 seconds later it was nestling in the back of the Heanor net. A solid clearance, a flick from Ballie and then a powerful run from Patryk ended with him finishing superbly across the keeper. 1-0. Great start. The remainder of the half was end to end with us playing some superb football at times in the Heanor half but unfortunately being somewhat careless in our own. A few touches to many, sliced clearances and ball watching saw Heanor net 3 times before the break and all three goals were easily avoidable. Heanor didn't need to be creative, they had gifts from us, but Christmas is long over.

At half time we discussed these mistakes and despite the 1-3 scoreline we were confident there was something in the game for us and we came very close to getting it. In the second half Emmanuel put the pressure on in the Heanor half and created some good opportunities. There was some very good play in wide areas with Keezy providing the threat down the left and Berbajohn, on for the second half, showing his ability at bringing others into play and holding up the ball superbly. A second Emmanuel goal was coming and it was great to see it come in such brilliant fashion when some good work down the left flank saw Keezy put in a sublime cross to be back post. Like a ginger salmon up jumped Captain Isaac to net with a towering header. 2-3 and game back on. Emmanuel continued to push forward whilst still looking a little kamikaze at the back but within 30 seconds of Sam entering the pitch, his presence obviously lifted everybody, the equaliser hit the back of the Heanor net, Captain Isaac latching onto a through ball and slotting it past the diving keeper. 3-3. Could it be? Sadly not with Heanor eventually benefitting from a couple of errors as Emmanuel pushed for the win. Final score 3-5.

Conclusions: There are many positives to take from the game. Our attacking play was a constant threat to Heanor and we created more chances through passing and teamwork than the opposition. Considering this was a team who boast the 5th best defensive record across both Divisions then that is something with which to take great encouragement. Scoring three goals against such a strong team, and it could easily have been more, should provide us with enough belief that we can win the re-match next week. We tested them, they wobbled. Other positives from the game were the return to scoring form for Captain Isaac, who despite being half fit today, looked like he is finding his mojo again. A strong game from Rhys also caught the eye and his running and commitment were superb today, as was Trebski's, although his temper must remain under control. Keezy was always a threat down the left and team Rob at the back did very well against the gigantic number 4. Another valuable contribution from Joe and some safe handling from Vishal provided Emmanuel with plenty of reasons to be happy and not too dissapointed.

As I said earlier, Heanor are a strong team. However, in my opinion, although obviously biased, we matched them throughout today. This game looked like two top teams going head to head. The team that lost would be team that made more mistakes. That was us today. It was us who scored three lovely goals and had the better passages of play and possession, it was us who dominated the second half. Heanor defended very well. Where we let ourselves down was simply through our failure to react quickly enough and our failure to communicate effectively with each other. Better communication would add so much more to our game, save us conceding some stupid goals and win us more matches against the stronger teams. We have some lessons to learn and we must learn them quickly. Heanor return to Derby Road next week. And I would like to show them that they were lucky this time, but that the generosity has ended.

Well Done lads.

Under 12 Match Report: Draycott 2 v 5 LEFC

In beating Draycott the following records were set:
• The team passed the previous club record for number of points earned by an under 12’s team.
• The team passed their own points record from the previous season.
• Kieron became the first squad member to score two league hat-tricks

The team also reclaimed 4th place in the Derby City League and Kieron (now on 16 goals) looks like he could break every scoring record in the books. Given that Hart had not played a competitive match since 12th December and had been kicked in the head on Thursday you could be forgiven for wondering if anything will ever distract him from his single minded obsession with the back of the opposition net.

The Record breaking Squad: Tom ‘the cat’ Stanton, James ‘determination’ Craig, Matthew ‘desperate’ Duxbury, Matt ‘relentless’ Harris, Nass ‘the terminator’ Tourki, William ‘pick on someone your own size’ Wilson, Ahmed ‘Captain Fantastic’ Al-jaf, Anupam ’reads the game’ Paul, Josh ‘bonecrusher’ Elliott, Cedrick ‘Usain Bolt’ Nattrass, Kieron ‘the Hitman’ Hart, Kirk ‘keepy uppy’ Walters, Aurel ‘Artful Dodger’ Siddiki

The scorers: Kieron 3, Kirk 2
Assists: Ahmed 2, Matt H, Josh, ANO???
Man of the Match: Matt D
MoM runners Up: William, Anupam, James

Emmanuel started brightly and Hitman Hart turned the pressure into an early lead with his customary clinical finish. With defenders Craig, Tourki, Paul and Wilson pressuring the opposition’s wide midfield players, Nattrass and Harris started to see plenty of the ball on the Emmanuel wings. The lead was doubled when the composed Walters superbly volleyed a Harris cross home. In what should have been a comfortable second half Draycott scored twice either side of a Hart second as Emmanuel wobbled. Only a series of superbly timed tackles by man of the match Duxbury and a magnificent save from keeper Stanton preserved the slender lead. As the half wore on the tough tackling Elliott and Captain Aljaf started to boss the midfield and in a generous lashing of extra time (that would even have satisfied Alex Ferguson) Emmanuel extinguished the opposition threat with Hart completing another hat-trick and Walters nipping in front of court jester, Siddiki, to convert an Elliott cross. There were periods in the game when we passed the ball well and bossed the show. I feel we used the width of the pitch better than we have done in the past and the fact we scored 5 goals was no coincidence. Well done guys!

Under 12 Match Report: St.George's 4 - LEFC 2

Scorers: Ryan, Matt H

Assists: Matt H, Ryan

Man of the Match: Nass

Team: Tom, Matt D, Josh, Anupam, William, Nass, Ahmed, Jake, Matt H, James, Cedrick, Kirk, Ryan

Thank you’s: All the drivers/supporters & particularly James’ Dad, Ian

After 7 weeks of inactivity our lads got back to their weekly diet of Saturday morning football on a pudding of a pitch that had the viscosity of a bowl of winter porridge. With our top scorer, Hitman Hart grounded for off the field disciplinary issues the striking duties fell to the mercurial Kirk and the twinkletoed Ryan. We bossed the first 15 minutes, taking a deserved lead when Matt H fed Ryan with a beauty of a pass. We could have added more, hitting the post, forcing a number of corners and narrowly missing in a series of goalmouth scrambles.

But as the match wore on the pitch surface mutated from pritt stick to super glue. As half time approached our lads were wandering around with the sort of platform boots that made the Bay City Rollers famous (for a couple of months). Our dreamy passing game was starting to wilt and we slumped into half time 2-1 down.

Undeterred we plied the lads with bottles of high energy drink that the club secretary had acquired from an unnamed source. With a couple of galleons of this stuff sloshing around inside my team there could only be one winner. I didn’t bother with much of a team talk and just stood back and waited for lift off. Sadly the only discernable effect of the high energy drink was the frequent number of pitstops that had to be made on the journey home and the soiled upholstery in the rear of my vehicle – they’ll be serious grief if my Mrs moves my daughter’s booster seat (or reads the club blog) in the next few days. I can’t rule out the possibility that it could be the manager who gets the next grounding for off the field disciplinary issues.

The second half saw us continue to struggle to adapt to the conditions, conceed another 2 goals and then stage a late rally where we missed an open goal, hit another post and finally scored a deserved second when Ryan turned provider for Matt H. Rumour has that Matt’s Dad cut his goal scoring fee on account of the fact that it was an open goal. If you want to make a living in this game Matt get your contracts in writing.

I think St George’s have stolen our crown as the most disorganised team in the league. Last week they allowed us to treck over from Loughborough before calling the game off for a frozen pitch and this week they decided a couple of minutes before kick off that they hadn’t got a ref and asked whether we could provide one! Fortunately James’ Dad Ian stepped into the breach.

UNDER 18 JUNIOR DIVISION MATCH REPORT: LEFC 1 - 2 Barton Rovers

Emmanuel have booked their place in the Cup Final but they slipped up in the League on Saturday after defeat to a much-improved Barton Rovers outfit. Emmanuel began well but were struck a huge blow when Smithson had to go off early on. Though not playing consistently well Emmanuel did produce three or four top-class moves, the best finishing with an Aning header that flashed past the post. Rovers, though, were the more consistent team and Emmanuel's back four had to be as focused as ever, wh they were with man-of-the-match Riman and Arme outstanding as centre-halves and Day immaculate in goal. The second half was very similar with Emmanuel producing the best moves but only in fits and starts. Indeed, it was Barton who scored the vital opener, following a free-kick. Emmanuel, to their credit, came back strongly and after excellent work from Etherington won a corner which Lewis flighted beautifully for Walker to score. At this point with Large beginning to find space in midfield and Pownall lively on the right Emmanuel looked odds-on to go on and win but it was in fact Barton who snatched a fine a late winner. Disappointing for Emmanuel and some hard lessons to learn, but the game confirmed the very high standard of top-flight Derby City League football.

JUNIOR DIVISION 1 MATCH REPORT: Derby Singh 3 - 1 LEFC

Emmanuel could and should have won this game - so, some lessons to learn. Throughout the game the back four were, again, outstanding with captain Sharp leading by example at right-back, Arme and Riman winning everything in the middle, and Schad strong at left back. Building on this platform, Sweet, Walker and Lewis in midfield began to open up the Singh defence, and Emmanuel finally broke through as Aning got onto the end of an Etherington flick-on to lob the keeper with aplomb. At half-time, then, Emmanuel led one nil, and early in the second half looked like they would double that lead but it was Singh who got up a head of steam with a series of corners and free-kicks from which they finally scored, and soon after they made it 2-1. Emmanuel stormed back and laid siege to the Singh goal. Sharp's shot was blocked on the line, the Singh keeper saved brilliantly from man-of-the-match Etherington, and Frutuoso just headed over a superb Pownall cross. With minutes to go Emmanuel went to three at the back and, with seconds to go, Singh got a break away goal to seal the game.

Day; Sharp, Arme, Riman, Schad; Pownall, Sweet, Walker, Lewis (Frutuoso); Aning, Etherington. Subs: Cole, Smyth.

DERBY CITY LEAGUE UNDER 18 LEAGUE CUP: Castle Donington 0 - 4 LEFC

Emmanuel are off to Derby County's Pride Park Stadium for the Derby City Leag Cup Final. They booked their place for the April showpiece after an excellent semi-final against a strong Donington outfit. The opening exchanges were predictably tense and Donington went close with a fine header but Emmanuel then began to get on top with Sharp and co. strong at the back, Smithson influential on the left and Walker dominant in midfield. And it was Emmanuel who took the lead as Etherington produced a fine header to score from an equally fine Sweet free-kick. Emmanule then doubled their lead as Etherington followed up a Pownall flick to score from close range. Emmanuel could and should have added to their lead but had to be content with a 2-0 half-time lead. The second half began as cautiouslys as the first and when Donington won a penalty it looked like they would come right back into the game; but, fortunately for Emmanuel, the penalty hit the bar and flew over. Emmanuel responded well and soon won a penalty themselves which Sweet coolly dispatched. Aning then added a fourth with a fine shot to seal the game. There was, though, still time for Lewis and Frutuoso both to go close before the final whistle. Emmanuel can now look forward to the trip to Pride Park, but first they will want to reproduce this form in the league.

Day; Sharp, Arme, Rimand, Sachd; Pownall (Lewis), Sweet , Walker, Smmithson (Large); Aning (Futuoso), Etherington. subs: Watkiss, Eccleston,

UNDER 15 MATCH REPORT: LEFC 2 - 1 Mickleover 95

After over 2 months since the last ball was kicked Emmanuel returned to league action with a solid 2-1 victory over Mickleover 95. Things started slowly and it was obvious that the long lay off would have an effect on the team and early on Mickleover made their match sharpness pay off catching the Emmanuel players off guard when poor reactions saw a high ball sail over Maini into the net. Emmanuel then picked up the pace but didn't create enough chances despite the tireless efforts of Parton, Trebski and Willey. However with half time approaching Ball equalised after some good work from Gee down the right. Gee moved the ball inside to Willey who saw his shot blocked but Ball was on hand to force a good save from the keeper and eventually stab home the 3rd rebound to score. 1-1.

The 2nd half was mostly Emmanuel with Mickleover threatening mainly through direct balls and corners. With the cobwebs brushed off somewhat Emmanuel started to dictate the play but creativity and finding the killer final ball was still proving difficult. Kieron, finally making his debut after nearly 3 months wait, the play started have an impact on the left and gaps started to appear in the Mickleover defence. The breakthrough eventually came after a strong run from Willey down the left channel saw him cut the ball back onto his favoured right foot and finish superbly with a curling shot past the keeper. 2-1. A few more chances came and had substitute Bishal been a little taller we'd have been 3-1 winners. However, a solid defence and a good back to action performance saw Emmanuel get the result they deserved.

Special praise to Rob Barrow who played sweeper superbly today and played with great energy as always. A solid performance from Mike and a superb second half display from Joe helped the defence look in control today, as well as a composed substitute appearance from Jabed. Patryk, captain for today, did a true captains job and lead by example in his normal all action style. Rhys, as well as scoring his first Emmanuel goal, had a really good game in midfield after a slow start. Another high energy display from Jubed also deserves praise as did the performances of debutants Rob and Keiron who both comtributed the a solid victory. Everybody should be happy after a good result and look forward to building upon this team display with an exciting 2nd half of the season to come.

Goals: Ball, Willey. (no one laugh)
Man of the Match: Rob "Beckenbauer" Barrow

UNDER 18 JUNIOR DIVISION MATCH REPORT: LEFC 3 - 0 Pastures Youth

After weeks of bad weather Emmanuel finally got back to league action - and they picked up where they left off, with a win. Emmanuel began well putting together two or three fine passing moves but then Emmanuel gradually faded as Pastures pressed, harried and played some superb football which could and should have given them the lead. And this they would have done were it not for some top-class defending form Tyrer et al and a couple of quite stunning last-gasp tackles from Schad, Arme, Riman and, above all, Large. Emmanuel were clearly not working hard enough as a team and the front 4 were simply not doing enough. A few home-truths were spelt out at half time by coach Dave Day and this had the desired result as very soon the game looked very different. Crucial in this phase was Aning who began to dominate in midfield with the result that Smithson began to weave some magic on the left and Emmanuel forced a whole series of corners. Finally, one fell to Sharp who turned well to score from close range. Emmanuel were now well and truly on top and looked likely to score again which they did when Walker finished superbly to beat the Pastures keeper one-on-one. Almost immediately Emmanuel scored again as Pownall skipped past a couple of Pastures defenders before curling in an exquisite 20-yard shot. The game was not, though, over as Pastures pressed and it took a quite stunning double block-on-the-line by man of the match Riman to ensure Emmanuel kept a clean sheet.
